Samsung Galaxy Mega Vs Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Today we’re comparing two big screen ‘mega’ mobiles from Samsung and Sony, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 has been around for a month or two now whilst the new Sony Xperia Ultra Z is just hitting the market. The Samsung Galaxy Mega already has deals available here whilst the Xperia has yet to be released.

The Lowdown: Sony Vs Samsung Phone Features Comparison

The recently announced Sony Xperia Z Ultra boasts an impressive 2.2GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, runs on Android v4.2 (Jelly Bean), this Sony phone offers 16GB internal memory which can be boosted to 64GB with the help of the microSD slot but it’s not these features that sets it apart from the Galaxy Mega.

Proving fierce competition for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 phablet smart phone, the Z Ultra is the slimmest Android  phone to feature a colossal 6.44″ full HD display.  Optimised for entertainment, it’s extraordinarily thin at just 6.5mm and is the first of its kind to incorporate a Triluminous display with X-reality for mobile.  Sony have gone all out with the new Sony Xperia Z Ultra making it not only dust and waterproof, as with many of their phone models, but water resistant up to a depth of 1 metre.  Allowing the user an astounding 30 minutes of use under water!

And thanks to its anti shatter coated tempered glass, shatter proof too.  Compare this to the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and some would say there is no comparison.  But they both run on Android v4.2, feature an 8MP 3264 x 2448p camera with video recording at 1080p@30fps and decent sized secondary camera’s for video calling.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega may not be able to compete with the Xperia’s processor offering a mere 1.7GHz Dual-Core in comparison but whereas the Xperia Z Ultra is only available in a 16GB version the Galaxy Mega offers a choice between 8GB or 16GB variants plus the optional 64GB with mircoSD expansion that’s available on both devices.

When it comes to size, the Samsung Galaxy Mega certainly has the upper hand, by still offering a large 6.3″ wide screen HD touchscreen display but measuring just slightly smaller dimensions than the Sony Xperia Z Ultra at 167 x 88 x 8 mm it does make it inevitably that much more comfortable to hold in the hand even if only by a small margin.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega also offers many of the popular Samsung Galaxy S4 features which Samsung fans have come to know and love such as Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface plus access to a full range of Samsung Apps and smart services taking full advantage of its super sized screen.  But we still have to wonder if there really is any competition here.

Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming Sony Xperia Z Ultra and what the Samsung Galaxy Mega offers you.
